What’s the secret to a lasting marriage? Learning what works best for the two of you. Dr. Eliza Belle and her husband, Kalon, talk about it in a new Birmingham Times article. Writer Chanda Temple interviewed the couple for the “You Had Me at Hello” column.
The couple met in high school and always joked they may get married one day; however, it would be years later before they even started dating. The article highlights their courtship, the proposal, and their wedding.
Their marriage advice?
Dr. Belle: “Our formula: It works to have really good, intense time together and to have our own personal time. When we have our family time, we do a lot together such as cook, watch movies and go to festivals. Then alone, we can indulge in our hobbies, quiet time, etc. We also make sure to always celebrate our friendship, even during the rough times. Friendship is where we started from, and it is what carries us through.’’
Kalon: “You always have to keep working at your marriage. Don’t let it get stale. Keep trying to make it special.’’
